18.9% Test Positivity Rate
“The number of South Dakotans hospitalized after being infected with coronavirus jumped 21% between Monday and Tuesday, the South Dakota Department of Health reported Tuesday,” reports the Argus Leader. “The 133 people hospitalized Tuesday represented 6% of the state’s total hospital capacity and 8% of intensive care beds. It was the largest number of people hospitalized in the state with COVID-19.” The state has had 16,994 cases and 184 deaths.

Kansas
17.3% Test Positivity Rate
Kansas is discovering COVID-19 isn’t some big city disease. “A rural Kansas school district is moving all classes online and canceling all sports activities for two weeks due to an outbreak of coronavirus cases three weeks after reopening,” reports Kansas.com. “Rawlins County public schools is making the move to online after multiple people in the district tested positive for COVID-19, Superintendent Eric Stoddard said Tuesday in a statement.” Kansas has 51,003 cases and 555 deaths.

15.2% Test Positivity Rate
“Iowa’s daily COVID-19 positivity rate appears to be hitting a plateau, but a central Iowa doctor said the numbers could foreshadow another spike in cases,” reports KCCI. “‘It’s going in steps, and instead of being steps going down, it’s steps going up,’ UnityPoint Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Rossana Rosa said. Rosa said Iowans take the virus seriously when case spikes occur, but tend to relax and resume normal activity when cases drop.” Iowa has 75,721 cases and 1,234 deaths.
13.8% Test Positivity Rate
“A cluster of COVID cases at schools in north Mississippi and eastern Arkansas means dozens are now in quarantine,” reports WREG. “This past week, there were 14 positive cases at Lewisburg High School in Desoto County. All but one of those were on one sports team. Now, 76 are in quarantine there.” Mississippi has 90,523 cases and 2,734 deaths.

“Two Idaho children within the South Central Public Health District have confirmed cases of the Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS-C) associated with COVID-19,” reports the Idaho Statesman. “Both children were hospitalized, according to a news release from Twin Falls-based SCPHD and St. Luke’s Health System. No other patient information was released.” “We are concerned that these exceptionally serious cases are occurring,” said Dr. Kenny Bramwell, medical director for St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital, in a news release. Idaho has 36,306 cases and 425 deaths.

Outbreaks tied to colleges continue. “Two students have been expelled and three others were suspended for violating University of Missouri’s campus COVID-19 rules,” reports KMOV4. “The University of Missouri also announced 11 student organizations are currently under investigation for violations of the university’s policies related to COVID-19.” Missouri has 107,000 cases and 1,824 deaths.

Florida has 669,000 cases and 12,786 deaths, with outbreaks now happening on campuses statewide. “I didn’t even know the person who had COVID until they gave it to my girlfriend and then she gave it to me, and then I might have given it to some other people without knowing it,” George Fairchild, a 19-year-old sophomore at the University of Florida, told Fox News 13, which adds: “He says he is hearing of more and more positive cases on campus. University officials are finding it’s hard to control what students do, especially if it’s happening off-campus.”

The state has 74,129 cases and 1,484 deaths, which is why it has put restrictions on large indoor gatherings. “The city of Henderson, Nevada, where President Donald Trump recently held an indoor campaign rally, is fining the venue owner $3,000 for violating COVID-19 preventative measures imposed by the state’s governor,” reports USA Today.

11.4% Test Positivity Rate
“South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette has tested positive for COVID-19, a spokesman for Gov. Henry McMaster announced Monday,” reports Greenville News. “Evette’s symptoms began four days after she, her husband, David, McMaster and McMaster’s wife, Peggy, attended the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. They were among about 8,000 spectators at the NASCAR event.” The state has 133,000 cases and 3,098 deaths.
10.3% Test Positivity Rate
“Ten more deaths were reported by the state Tuesday as the number of new coronavirus cases in Wisconsin jumped again. This, after dipping below 1,000 Monday. New cases were identified in 65 counties,” reports WBAY. “Cases per capita are skyrocketing among 18- to 24-year-olds.” Wisconsin has 97,002 cases and 1,230 deaths.
