PEORIA (WEEK) – COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are on the rise across Central Illinois. Peoria City County Health Department Administrator Monica Hendrickson said positivity in Peoria and Woodford Counties is over 10% while Tazewell County is over 13%.

The positivity rates in the Tri-County area are a week behind to make sure all tests are counted in the right time frame.

With Tier 3 mitigations going into place Friday, Hendrickson said holiday gatherings should be limited to those who are in your household. In other words, just the people you live with.

“Often times we see individuals that say “it’s just my close family but we’ve already heard locally of Halloween get togethers where all or 5 or more people have tested positive,” explained Hendrickson.

Hendrickson acknowledges this wave of COVID has come at a tough time for everyone, including small businesses who rely on holiday shopping season.

“You can still do curbside, you can pick up or cater a meal if they are food ones. Likewise a lot of our local businesses are offering gift cards or having an online platform,” she said.

If you don’t plan on adhering to recommendations, Hendrickson says to wear masks, spread out so different households aren’t mixing too much, and consider a quarantine before your gathering.
