Most people have had the experience of a check engine light coming on during their commute. Or it could be a low tire pressure warning or something else going wrong with their daily vehicle. That’s frustrating because it means an unplanned repair, which may be inconvenient or difficult to schedule.
RepairSmith is a car repair service designed to be convenient. The company can send a van with a mobile mechanic’s shop inside to any home or office. The mechanic will fix the vehicle on-site, if possible. If that’s not possible, RepairSmith can drive or tow the vehicle to their main location, fix it, and bring it back.
“We are reinventing car repair,” says RepairSmith CEO Joel Milne. “Car repair is like going to the dentist; it’s always inconvenient. We’re the first company to offer full service car repair at your home or office. We spent a lot of time talking to customers about how to make it better.”
Milne found that making things quick and easy was what his customers wanted.
“We offer online appointments, online quotes, transparent pricing, and mobile service,” Milne explains. “With our fleet of mobile repair vans, we can do any job from an oil change to a transmission rebuild. About 85% of repairs can be done on-site. We might have to take the car away and bring it back, but from the customer perspective it’s all done at your convenience.”
Milne says that the pricing is comparable to local repair shops. “We’re not the cheapest, but not the most expensive,” he says. “We’re a convenient service at a fair price.”
Expanding to Portland
After growing the business from a concept in southern California, RepairSmith is now expanding into the Portland area. The company stated that they are prepared to hire 20 or more skilled mechanics by the end of 2021.
According to the company website, RepairSmith provides the van and tools, health insurance, and competitive pay. To apply for a job in the Portland area, visit mechanics.repairsmith.com/ or click here to see the Portland job listings.
Benefits to local charities
In addition to its expansion into the region, RepairSmith plans to donate $20,000 in free car repair and maintenance services to Metropolitan Family Service (MFS) and Ride Connection. Both Portland-based nonprofits provide the community with access to vital resources, including food and transportation.
Metropolitan Family Services (MFS) provides a variety of programs and services designed to support families and help them realize their potential. RepairSmith’s donation will specifically support the organization’s Hunger Relief, Ways to Work, and Project Linkage initiatives. Through these three vital programs, Portland-area residents have access to safe and nutritious food, a reliable vehicle to travel to and from work, and affordable loans to finance a car repair or purchase.
