This Guy Lost 45 Kilos in a Year and Got Ripped Without Dieting

At 25 years old, Jaime is in great shape, but he struggled with his weight

At 25 years old, Jaime is in great shape, but he struggled with his weight throughout his childhood and teen years. “I was that kid wearing a white T-shirt to the pool,” he says. During a recent conversation with Robert Glover, a.k.a. Brix Fitness, Jaime shared the story of how he lost 45 kilos in 12 months and got ripped.

“I didn’t want to just weigh myself every day,” he says. “I wanted to take pictures, do the BMI scan, do measurements right from day one.” Jaime took a body fat scan to get as much information as possible as he started his journey, and then he headed straight for the gym. He started lifting weights and doing cardio five to six times a week.

“For the first seven months, I did an hour on the elliptical after every lift,” he says. “The first couple of pounds came off quick. So I lost 15 kilos in three months. I was taking progress pictures, but in my eyes, I didn’t see much of a change, so that kind of put me off.”

He pushed through those feelings of discouragement and kept up with his fitness routine. “I was on a mission,” he says. “You have to stay consistent. If I get stuck, eventually something’s going to happen if I continue with my nutrition, if I continue exercising. Something’s got to happen, I just didn’t know when.”

When it came to his nutrition, Jaime avoided restrictive diets, instead simply reducing portion size and beginning to track his calories. “Intermittent fasting helped me control the amount of food I was intaking; I was continuing to eat the foods that I love, I just wasn’t eating as much of them,” he says.

“I wasn’t going to cut out food, whether that’s carbs or sugar. I’m not going to deprive myself of something, because I feel like it’s going to get too hard and I’m going to break and regain the weight. At the same time, I knew I was going to have to reintroduce whatever I cut out back… I’m not going to not eat rice for the rest of my life.”

“You have to be consistent,” he says. “Don’t let anything get in your way. No-one knows your body as well as you do, so no matter what piece of knowledge someone gives you, or recommendations online, or things you read, you only know yourself. It comes down to being in tune with your body, being cautious. I learned so much about myself during this process. It’s you vs. you… Don’t compare yourself to anybody else’s journey.”
