Meet the Battle Creek Enquirer Athletes of the Week, presented by Oaklawn Hospital.
Each week during the high school sports season, we ask our readers to vote for the top performance of the week in all sports, taking a look at events from Monday-Saturday.
Make sure to vote early and often for your pick, as the winner will get an Enquirer Athlete of the Week T-shirt. Fans can vote online at www.battlecreekenquirer.com for their favorite athlete until 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Due to injury, running back Jaden Simonson had to step in to play quarterback for Lakeview and kept the Spartans in the game against St. Joseph in a battle of first-place teams with two touchdowns and 130 yards rushing on 27 carries in 22-14 loss.
Marshall’s Josh Pugh had the best night of his high school career with five goals in a district semifinal tournament game, including one in the first 10 seconds of the contest. Pugh went on to score two more goals and added an assist in the final as Marshall won its third straight district championship.
Abby Welke helped Marshall clinch its first-ever regular season title in the Interstate 8 Conference in volleyball, defeating Hastings to go undefeated during the league campaign. Welke led the team offensively over the week with 69 kills in seven matches played with 33 digs and 10 blocks.
Harper Creek Cross Country
The Harper Creek boys cross country team were crowned the Interstate 8 Conference champs after finishing in first place at the conference meet with a team score of 40. Owen Gilbert took first place overall with a season personal-best time of 16:26.
